The Growing Years
Welcome to The Growing Years (TGY) located in Saco, Maine. Rooted in play-based learning, we nurture the whole child through social-emotional development, outdoor exploration, and hands on discovery.
With a unique approach to preschool, our morning program is designed specifically for children ages 2.5 to 4 and follows the traditional school-year calendar. It’s the perfect fit for families looking to gently introduce their little ones to social experiences in a small, nurturing, and nature-connected setting. With a quiet, calming, and imaginative classroom environment, this program offers a thoughtful first step into preschool—ideal for children who have been home with family and are ready for a warm and supportive place to grow.
Our Mission
Research shows that children learn best in Play-Based Learning programs. At The Growing Years, we believe that children learn by exploring and playing, and are equipped to lead their own learning. Our child-led and learning by inquiry methods evoke curiosity and encourage play. Our school is thoughtfully constructed with a calming and inviting space that fosters imagination and creativity, and aids in critical thinking.
Children are natural investigators, and our toys and materials represent all age groups. For our older toddlers and preschoolers, dramatic play, sensory play, and creative art play will help expose your child to the tools needed to be engaged in the learning process. We also pride ourselves on our commitment to provide your child with ample outdoor play. Our outdoor classrooms and playground are enchanting and inviting!
An encouraging and enriching preschool program is also incorporated into the curriculum. TGY creates its own curriculum, teaching to Maine’s Early Learning Standards. It accommodates a multi-age classroom, and provides an engaging preschool curriculum for children 2 through 5 years.
